Benchmarking Procter & Gamble: Unicist Innovation

Procter & Gamble is a world leader in innovation. This allows learning from P&G how to manage innovation to make it successful in the markets.

The Unicist Standard includes a fundamental approach to deal with innovations that allows integrating fundamentals with technical analytical knowledge to produce successful innovations.

The question we are posing is: Which are the fundamentals of innovation?

You can find information on how Procter & Gamble deals with innovations presented by Robert Bob McDonald, COO of Procter & Gamble. There are two short presentations at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycMXZDybhlw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x93YopVXJSM

In one week you will find a response to the fundamentals of innovation on this blog.

Unicist Market Labs: Partnering with Family Businesses

We have launched the Family Business Partnering Program with several companies while the alliances with the Family Business Associations are being implemented.

The objective in all the cases in the development of growth programs is to produce more than 100% growth in these companies.

Free access to the Unicist Ontology of Family Businesses at: http://www.unicist.org/papers/family_business_en.pdf

As it is self-evident this implies that we only work in markets we know. The Unicist Microsegmentation Model and the Unicist Object Driven Organization are used to “build” the growth of these companies.

Pricing of the Unicist Object Driven Technologies

The Unicist Technologies integrated in the Unicist Standard are available worldwide to develop diagnoses, forecasts, strategies and organizational design through the Unicist Confederation.

The global expansion of the Unicist Confederation – developed through Alliances, Unicist Diagnostics Centers and Unicist Scientific Dissemination Centers – required the establishment of a pricing policy that includes the interests of the clients, the members of the Unicist Confederation and The Unicist Research Institute.

It has to be considered that The Unicist Research Institute is the major research organization in the world in its specialty based on more than 3,000 researches in complexity science applied to individual, institutional and social evolution.

This research was possible due to the participation in the research of hundreds of institutions and companies and thousands of individuals since its beginning in 1976.

From today on the prices in USD of the main proposals are:

-Diana Belohlavek`s Lecture on Unicist Thinking (7,000)
-Second Opinion Business Diagnoses (45,000 – 600,000)
-Second Opinion Diagnostics for Personal use (9,000)
-Unicist Market Laboratory (70,000 – 250,000)
-Unicist Organizational Laboratory (70,000 – 250,000)
-Unicist Strategic Diagnostics Program (9,000)
-Consultation with Peter Belohlavek (8,000)
-Unicist Strategy for Diagnosticians & Graduates (27,000)
-Unicist Think Tanks & R&D Labs (70,000 – 250,000)
-Unicist Talent Diagnoses & Development for High Potentials (1,000 per participant)
-Unicist Lectures (4,000 – 25,000)
-Unicist Corporate Universities (45,000 – 250,000)

In “Unicist Strategic Programs” and “Unicist Strategy for Diagnosticians & Graduates”, the benefit of the participant’s client has to be above 10 times the price paid for the program (based on a pre-diagnosis measured at the level of the maximal strategy).

Unicist Family Business Strategies – The Unicist Standard

Business-driven family companies and family-driven companies are highly conditioned by the family archetype of each culture and the solution given to the roles that this fulfills. In the cultures where the affective predominates over the economic and social role, families that have businesses are highly inefficient and are always at risk as they don’t stabilize as institutions (independently of their members).

In cultures where the roles are balanced, business-driven family companies and family-driven companies are distinct fundamentally for their capacity and speed of growth. Business-driven family companies grow more rapidly.

In cultures where the predominant roles in the family are social insertion and the economic role, families with companies have a powerful influence in the environment. Although structurally they have less capacity to grow, they compensate this with the influence exerted in the environment. In markets with imperfect competition they build very powerful empires.

When we are dealing with business-driven family companies we can state that they are more effective than family-driven companies in the active roles, which are hunting, where one goes out to seek the animal in the market, and agriculture where intensive activities are developed.

An efficiently organized business-driven family company is more effective in passive hunting where it works from the basis of the influence of the family brand, and passive agriculture where extensive is what counts.

Therefore each business-driven family company must know what market niche to occupy where it can best achieve results.

We want to highlight that in marginal markets with highly imperfect competition, these concepts have no effects in reality, which is managed by non-company relationships, where the family-driven company has the weight of the family in that society.

Benchmarking General Electric: The Nature of Innovation

Managing the nature of innovation is basic when dealing with growth. This is something General Electric manages since the era of Thomas Edison.

The Unicist Standard in Innovation Management deals with the object driven technologies that are necessary to manage innovations.

You will find the information on the nature of innovation between the lines of Jeff Immelt’s lecture, CEO of G.E:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YOEwYAXH10

Next week we will be providing the ontology of innovation in order to help benchmark General Electric.

Unicist object driven technologies for growth

Growth is the Achilles heel of entrepreneurs. Growth requires a structural approach. That is why entrepreneurs naturally produce profit and grow by acquisition.

Dealing with growth requires focusing all the available energy on increasing the perceived added value of a company. Adding value is a basic condition to expand the markets beyond the boundaries.

Dealing with Business-wolves

I got trapped while reading about “Business-wolves”, because I found myself reading about many experiences I had in my own business life. And above all, I rediscovered a way to deal with the business-wolves we might be surrounded by every day.

I recommend understanding this phenomenon because business-wolves justify everything they do in order to profit from others.

“If you think you have a business-wolf among your managers you need to bear in mind their fundamentals: 1) profiting without adding value, 2) justifying everything and blaming others for what does not work, 3) exerting power by action or inaction.

Business-wolves have a diabolic dribbling capacity. Just like a basketball player that should not look into the opponents’ eyes, but focus on the ball that is moving, when you face a Business-wolf you should not believe his eyes but focus on the facts that are being produced.

Do not imagine that you can manage them, they use their anti-intelligence. Anti-intelligence is superior to intelligence because it has not ethical inhibitions. You cannot negotiate with them because they will find a justification to avoid their commitment.

The wolf of the little red cap story is an apprentice when compared with a business-wolf. You cannot deal with people who are driven by the Schadensfreude (envy).”

The unicist ontology of Innovation Blindness for Entrepreneurs: The business improvement killer

The development of unicist technologies and their implementation processes required the research of innovation blindness to develop strategies to avoid it.

Change blindness is a well known and experimented subject. The research was developed by different educational institutions: http://viscog.beckman.uiuc.edu/change/people.shtml

Innovation blindness is an unconscious response of individuals who do not perceive the proposed change, when the conditions to make use of it are not given.

The avoidance of energy consumption to introduce a new task in an individual’s brain is the functionality of innovation blindness.

Causes of innovation blindness

There are social and individual causes.

Social causes

1) When there are utopias implicit in the innovations that are out of reach for a group or society.
2) When the innovation does not respects the myths of a culture.
3) When the innovation disrespects the taboos of a culture.
4) When the innovation modifies the ethics of a culture.

Individual causes

1) When it modifies an individual’s habits.
2) When it modifies the ethics of an individual.
3) When the “functional recreation” by a user requires a level of knowledge the individual doesn’t have.
4) When the ego or the “business” of an individual is affected.
5) When an increase of responsibility of the user is required and s/he has no need to assume it.
6) When an increase of internal freedom of the individual is required.
7) When it stimulates guild or fear of the user.
